Hondon Valley
Hondon Valley south west of Alicante, is comprised of
2 main villages, Hondon de los Frailes and Hondon de
las Nieves.
Each village has shops catering for every need, also medical services and chemists.
The paved streets with their cafes and bars make ideal places to relax and meet
friends.
The area is very rural with an abundance of olive and almond orchards, superb
mountain views, and a huge acreage of grapes. Bodegas in each village and the
surrounding area mean that there is never a shortage of good local wine.
The
Hondon Valley is essentially Spanish
but the villagers make newcomers welcome and the local
government offers free basic lessons in the language.
Within a short driving distance are many larger towns,
including Elche, which is world famous for its palm
parks and its annual firework display.
Alicante also,is only 40 mins away with its shopping
malls, marina, castle and world renowned Fallas fiesta.
Two airports serve the area. Alicante, presently in
the process of expansion, is about forty minutes away
and Murcia approximately fifty minutes.
The coastal resorts of Gran Alacant,Santa Pola and
Guardamar with their beautiful, clean beaches are just
an easy drive on good roads.
It is possible to go to
an open air market every day of the week in a different
location and in the summer time the local fiestas,
for which Spain is so well-known, take place nearly
every week.
Health care in Spain is excellent, both in the public
and private sector and the hospitals are all within
easy reach.
